Workshop on Innovation and Firm Performance
21 March 2019
09:15 am

The main actor of innovation is the firm. First, innovative firms bring the scientific progress generated in universities and public research centres to the marketplace. Second, they take on the risks inherent in transforming scientific knowledge into financial returns. In this III Workshop on Innovation and Firm Performance, we analyse the challenges, barriers and drivers of innovative firms from a micro perspective. The many new data sources that have become available since the 1990s facilitate us in addressing the determinants and the challenges of innovation at the firm level. Additionally, a wide range of analytical frameworks including evolutionary economics, structural models, and even the theories about the internal resources of the company, allows us to address these factors from multiple perspectives.

The organizers of the workshop look forward to sharing with our colleagues, not only this scientific progress, but also the associated technical difficulties and questions raised.

To that purpose, an economist of international standing will drive the workshop. Pol Antràs is Robert G. Ory Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He is also an editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics and has previously been on the editorial board of many prestigious journals, including the American Economic Review, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of International Economics, and the Annual Review of Economics.
